When self-levelling cement helps
It is useful where a floor needs smoothing before another finish or where minor level variation must be corrected. It is not a substitute for structural repair where the slab itself is failing or moving.
Water ratio and working time
For the current product instructions, approximately one-quarter of a 5-gallon bucket of water is used with one-half bag. Mix and apply promptly because self-levelling material can set faster than thinset. Avoid applying in hot direct sun.
Prepare before mixing
Vacuum or sweep thoroughly and remove weak material, dust, oil and other contaminants. Have tools, water and the application route ready before mixing because the working window is limited.
Calculate thickness, not only area
Coverage drops as the required thickness increases. A floor with deep low spots may therefore need more bags than a simple square-foot calculation at 3 mm suggests.
